Develop your own version

Choose a contained situation with understandable rules: a storm-bound station, a protected flat, a joint assignment, or a limited journey. Establish what each person needs from the space and which resources they must share. Privacy, sleep, work, and control of a timetable can create tension without constant shouting. Give the confinement a credible end point so the reader can feel time moving. Then decide what information becomes visible through ordinary behavior. Someone cleaning up without being asked may reveal more than a dramatic confession. If the story is romantic, distinguish the inability to leave the setting from the freedom to refuse intimacy. The outline should include an opportunity to separate, followed by a meaningful decision about whether to return. The ideas below use this structure across romance, fantasy, and suspense. Their openings and outlines can help you compare a light logistical inconvenience with a dangerous shared problem. Add enemies to lovers for conflict or found family for a group learning to share responsibility.
