The Terms of Our Disappearance
A disappearance broker falls for the investigator auditing her last escape. Their agreement can save both of them only if they refuse to erase the inconvenient person who saw them leave.
Dark romance places a love story under pressure from danger, secrecy, or compromised loyalties. Start with a powerful dilemma and keep each character's choices meaningful.

Give the central couple goals that would matter even if they never met. An investigator may need testimony while the person protecting her needs a document kept private. Their attraction should complicate that conflict rather than make it disappear. Choose one source of danger that can be understood clearly: a false identity, a family business, a protected witness, or a debt with a deadline. Then decide what each character refuses to do. Boundaries make a morally complicated character more specific and give a redemption arc something concrete to change. A useful outline asks who has power at the beginning, what information changes that balance, and which action finally earns trust. Secrets should produce consequences when revealed. Protecting someone does not automatically entitle a character to affection. The ideas here include closed-door opening scenes, distinctive settings, and ten-beat outlines. Compare the bodyguard, hidden-identity, and enemies-to-lovers setups, then change the profession, threat, or decisive act to create your own version.
