Meet Chris Fox

Chris Fox writes science fiction, fantasy and the Write Faster, Write Smarter books for authors. His official biography describes his former iPhone-development career, love of worldbuilding and lifelong D&D play. His channel covers writing, publishing and book marketing.

A book with a purpose

A salvage engineer finds a forbidden spell engine aboard a derelict ship. Saving her settlement means trusting a crew of misfits and fixing the system she once helped break. This original science-fantasy proposal connects engineering, worldbuilding and hard choices. Generate it here with ImagineYourBook.

A note for Chris Fox

Your September 4 video, "How AI is Improving My Author Workflow," sparked a hands-on idea: a science-fantasy sample about a salvage engineer solving a broken magical system. I prepared a prompt and cover concept so you can try the book-generation workflow yourself.

  1. 01A repair nobody wanted
  2. 02The price of a spell
  3. 03A crew worth trusting
  4. 04The engine that lied
  5. 05One impossible restart

Lesson 1 · 8:37

Improve one workflow step

Chris explores AI in his author workflow. Use this topic to examine a specific bottleneck while keeping creative decisions with the author.

Take away: Our application: test a small task against a result you can inspect, rather than treating speed as proof of quality.

Try it: Choose one repetitive task. Record the time spent and check the result for errors before deciding whether to keep the change.

Lesson 2 · 10:57

Scope a Kickstarter you can deliver

Chris discusses Kickstarter for authors. Our planning exercise treats a campaign as a delivery commitment as well as a way to fund a book.

Take away: A compelling reward still needs a realistic production and fulfillment plan. Funding is not the same as profit.

Try it: Sketch one reward tier. Estimate production, fees, shipping and contingency, then write down what you can deliver and when.

Lesson 3 · 11:38

Research how readers search

Chris demonstrates keyword research with Publisher Rocket. Our exercise connects search language with the actual reading experience your novel offers.

Take away: Use keyword ideas as research leads. Relevance matters more than adding popular phrases that misdescribe the book.

Try it: List five phrases a likely reader might search. Compare each with your premise and remove any that promise the wrong genre or experience.

Lesson 4 · 7:48

Make a testable sales plan

Chris addresses the need for a book-selling plan. Our exercise turns a broad ambition into one audience, one action and a review date.

Take away: A plan becomes useful when you can see what happened and decide what to change. Sales are never guaranteed.

Try it: Name your intended reader, one route to reach them, a spending limit and a review date. Choose one observable result to track.

Lesson 5 · 13:23

Define the reader promise

Chris revisits writing to market in 2026. His Write to Market resource also emphasizes genre research and reader expectations before drafting.

Take away: Research helps you understand the experience readers seek. It does not require copying another author’s plot.

Try it: Compare three recent books in one subgenre. Note their shared reader promises, then write one sentence explaining your original variation.

Lesson 6 · 7:38

Build the blurb around conflict

The first blurb video opens a two-part topic. Our exercise focuses on the protagonist, the disruption and the stakes rather than a complete plot summary.

Take away: Give a prospective reader a clear reason to care, while leaving the resolution inside the novel.

Try it: Draft three sentences: who wants what, what blocks them, and what failure costs. Remove backstory that does not sharpen that conflict.

Lesson 7 · 17:27

Revise the promise with examples

The second blurb video is explicitly an examples session. Apply the topic to your own copy by comparing two distinct ways to present the same story.

Take away: Compare versions against the novel’s actual promise. A stronger hook should remain truthful to the book.

Try it: Write two opening hooks for your blurb. Ask a genre reader what story each suggests, then revise any mismatch.

Lesson 8 · 14:47

Edit with a bounded checklist

Chris covers fast novel self-editing and links to his writing resources. Our exercise makes an editing session manageable by giving it a single purpose.

Take away: A focused pass needs a defined question and a stopping point. Fast editing still requires human judgment.

Try it: Pick one scene and check only goal, resistance and consequence. Log the structural changes before polishing individual sentences.
