How it begins

The werewolf apologized for the fang before he apologized for the chair.

Edda looked at the cracked armrest.

"Did it offend you?"

"I was nervous."

"Most people grip the cushion."

"I started there."

He sat very still, which required visible effort.

The referral described an unusual canine presentation. It did not mention that the patient would duck beneath the doorframe or ask whether the mirrors were compulsory.

Edda checked his name.

"Raf Vale?"

"Yes."

"Date of birth?"

He gave her one.

"That's thirty-eight, then."

He looked faintly disappointed.

"Were you expecting me to say ancient?"

"No."

"Good. Ancient patients usually bring more paperwork."

His laugh exposed the damaged fang.

A small break. Nothing theatrical.

He had arrived carrying enough shame for an entire mouth.

Edda set the clipboard down.

"We'll discuss options. You can ask questions. You can also stop the appointment."

His shoulders lowered.

"Is it usually like that?"

"It should be."

Outside the surgery window, volunteers were putting up notices about the proposed sale of the woodland. Raf watched them while she finished the assessment.

"You know those people?"

"I work there."

"What do you do?"

"Conservation."

"That seems useful."

He looked at her as if nobody had ever called him useful without adding dangerous.

When the appointment ended, he offered to repair the chair.

"We have insurance."

"I could still help."

"You can start by filling in the contact form."

He took the pen carefully.

At the door he paused.

"Would you think it strange if I came back?"

"For the follow-up?"

"Yes. Obviously."

Edda smiled.

She had heard many excuses from frightened patients. This one had at least brought an honest broken thing.

Outside, a woodland notice blew free from its string.

Raf caught it before it reached the road.

For the first time that morning, his hands looked perfectly at home.

Outline and characters

Develop this idea

A funny werewolf romance can find intimacy in ordinary vulnerability. Edda should have professional boundaries, including separating treatment from a later relationship, while Raf needs interests beyond his curse. Let humor come from his dramatic expectations meeting calm competence. Keep any dental details fictional and non-instructional. For your version, choose a different everyday service and a supernatural character who has never learned to ask for it without turning the request into a grand ordeal.
